Our mission

DataWall.org exists to protect people and communities from the misuse of data, unethical surveillance, and unaccountable digital systems — through education, advocacy, and practical resources.

What we stand for

DataWall is an independent privacy and digital-rights initiative. We believe technology must serve human dignity — not exploitation, control, or harm. In a rapidly digitising world, we stand as a protective barrier — a wall — between people and unchecked data power.

Why this matters

Data is no longer just information. It shapes identities, controls access, predicts behaviour, and influences power. Across the world, data is used to track populations without consent, profile individuals unfairly, exploit vulnerable communities, and centralise power in opaque systems.

Many people are excluded from conversations about how these systems are designed and deployed. DataWall exists to close that gap.

What we aim to achieve

  • Empower individuals to understand and defend their digital rights
  • Equip communities to navigate surveillance and data collection
  • Promote ethical standards in technology development
  • Influence policy with people-centered perspectives
  • Build awareness where legal and digital protections are weakest

Our focus

DataWall places special attention on the Global South, including Africa and diaspora communities — ensuring digital rights are not a privilege reserved for a few.

Our vision

We envision a world where people understand and control their data, technology operates transparently and ethically, surveillance is accountable and limited, and digital dignity is universal.
